About the Campaign

Cemix’s third partnership with the Barbados Cancer Society is focused on Prostate Cancer Awareness and Testing. Cemix’s Green Hearts for Blue Ribbons was launched during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September 2019, and is aimed at breaking down cost barriers, as well as the stigmas attached to getting a prostate check.

As a majority male company in the construction industry, it was considered extremely important to focus this campaign on a disease that takes the lives of so many Barbadian men.

Cemix is dedicated to covering the costs of the life-saving PSA blood screenings for Barbadian men at pop-up screenings that will be held across the island for the duration of the campaign.

*Prostate Cancer Facts to Know*

  • This year, at least 250 Barbadian men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer but early diagnosis means more treatment options as well as an increased survival rate.
  • More than 90 percent of men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer survive. That’s the importance of early and frequent testing! Prostate cancer is one of the most curable forms of cancer, once it is detected early.
  • The chance of having prostate cancer rises rapidly after age 50, often with no obvious symptoms. This is why it is so important for men to have regular annual testing.
